Homeschool Horizons is dedicated to the encouragement and inspiration of families just like ourselves. We also recognize that there is more to do to make this world a better place for these children that we’re bringing up.
But, how should we choose? Sadly the world is full of need. As a family, we discussed what sort of organization would be best suited to the magazine’s mission of supporting education in the home. In our discussions, my children came to understand that the privilege of being home-educated was something that is not available to all children. Many children grow up with parents who cannot read or write, which means they are ill-equipped to teach their own. In many countries, the only hope children have to break the chains of poverty is to get an education. So our family has chosen Compassion Canada to support.
Compassion supports poverty-stricken communities through a very effective Child Sponsorship program. They reach into villages and start schools, provide vocational training, and generally support the families of the community in their efforts to break the cycle of poverty. And so, we’ve decided to sponsor a child - on behalf of the homeschoolers of Canada. We’ll have more information about “our” child up soon!
We hear that sponsor children LOVE pictures and photos from the country where their sponsor lives, so if you’d like to send a picture or a photo of life where YOU live, please send it on to Head Office (you can find our mailing address on our Contact Us page) – and we’ll be sure to send it along in our regular mailings (make sure to put your first name and province on it, so they will be able to see how far the love has flown! We’re going to send a map with our first letter, and maybe some little sticky flags so “our” child can keep track of where places are in Canada, after all, we’re a HUGE country! We hope you’ll join us in sharing some Canadian Love with this special child.
